Bees Make Honey (Buzz Buzz)

For some reason I have a song stuck in my head from the musical I performed in 4th grade (I had one line, "Like yeah man. He's innocent!). It was "The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf". The only thing I can remember though is the following lines:

"Lions are kings! Bees make honey! (buzz buzz) Dogs are called man's best friend (man's best friend)"

It's driving me crazy! I tried looking on YouTube and other places to see if there was a video of some kid's class performing it so I could get it out of my head but had no luck. I don't even know the name of the song. I don't know why I even thought about it. That was over 20 years ago.

Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

Protect Your Neck

My neck and shoulders have been hurting for a few weeks now. Today I went to the doctor to have it checked out. When did doctors stop listening to patients? I started to describe my symptoms to him and he was just going "uh huh. mm hmm. does this hurt? how about this? ok let's go get an x-ray." Maybe the stuff I'm saying is not relevant to what is wrong with me but goddamn it, i want to tell him.

So my neck was pushed on and turned and x-rayed. According to the x-ray my neck vertebrae are all spaced correctly so I've got that going for me. The doctor said it could still be a pinched nerve due caused by the trapezius muscle or a bulging disc in my neck (which would require an MRI to detect). Regardless, the treatment is the same: steroids, muscle relaxers, and pain killers. 80% of patients recover after a week of that treatment. If that doesn't work it's back to the doc.

Steroids, muscle relaxers, and pain pills. It's going to be one hell of a week.

“That’s pride fuckin’ with you. Fuck pride.”

I've decided to watch all 100 of AFI's top 100 movies (the updated list released in 2007). So far I have watched three this weekend.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: I actually did not see this movie in the theater when it came out. Crazy eh? I started working nights this week and Friday night/Saturday morning is a 12 hour night. I thought I would just break out the entire LOTR trilogy to get me through the night. I made it through Fellowship and Two Towers and finished up with Return of the King the next night. I really can't think of them as three separate movies. That being said, I think I would put Return of the King (or Two Towers) on the AFI list rather than this one. What can I say? Epic battles just do it for me. My rating: 5 stars.

A Clockwork Orange: Here's a tip: don't watch this movie at work when it's close to 6am. People start coming in and seeing naked people and violence and you just don't want to have to explain things. I don't know what to say about this one really. When I was younger, I liked this movie a lot. Watching it now (after not having seen it in probably 10 years) I don't really feel strongly about it at all. It's a visual masterpiece and the story is interesting but I just don't feel emotionally invested in it anymore. My rating: 3 1/2 stars.

Pulp Fiction: When I was 18 I had a hedgehog named Jules Winfield. To this day I use quotes from this movie in my daily life. It not only changed the way I thought about movies but also the way I thought about life. Pulp Fiction definitely has a spot in my all time Top 10. My rating: 5 stars.

Things I Accomplished Yesterday / Today:

- cleaned up the bathroom, the kitchen floor, and various other areas of the house. i can't work on one area. i jump from small thing to small thing. you can barely tell i've accomplished anything (much to kristin's frustration).

- ate frito pie at texas chili parlor.

- avoided a parking ticket at texas chili parlor. i didn't have change for the meter so i said "fuck it" and took my chances. i was there for almost an hour and returned to my car to find no ticket. that's me bucking the system. damn the man!

- burned a bunch of dvd's to clear up some space on various computers and external drives.

- slept from 3am until 11am and then again from 2:30pm until 6pm. i have to work tonight so i needed the sleep to get through.

- watched some of the months worth of cheers that are piling up on the dvr. i love cheers. that show would never make it today though.

- made dinner. basically it was newman's own maranara with ricotta cheese and five cheese ravioli. it's better than it sounds.

- shaved the "neck beard" portion of my face. i'm trying to grow out the beard by halloween so as to be "the dude" or "el duderino" if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

- got ready for stupid work.

You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry.

Incredible_hulk

I ordered Direct TV because of the KXAN debacle. One thing I’m really going to miss about Time Warner is RTN. Everyday at 5pm the Incredible Hulk is shown. While other old shows (like the A-Team or Knight Rider) do not hold up, the Incredible Hulk does. For the last couple of weeks Brendan and I have watched one or two episodes a night. Good Stuff.

NBC.

Time Warner customers in Austin have lost the feed for NBC. That means no Office, no 30 Rock, no Heroes, no Chuck,no NFL Sunday Night Football…the list goes on and on. I never realized how much I watch NBC.

The fight stems from the fact that Time Warner Cable's contract to broadcast KXAN ended yesterday at midnight. For months KXAN's parent company, LIN TV, tried to negotiate a contract with Time Warner to no avail. KXAN wants to be paid fair market value for it's programming. It amounts to approximately a penny a day per subscriber. Time Warner states the following:

"KXAN is demanding money from our customers to pay for a signal that has
been and is free. That's right. They get their signals' spectrum free
from the Federal Government, but they want you to pay for it. We don't
want that to happen just so KXAN can add to their revenue base."

TV stations have to pay for their FCC license. They don't have to pay a fee to the federal government to transmit their signal, this is true, but they do have to pay for equipment, personnel, maintenance, etc. Time Warner resales this signal to its customers so why shouldn't KXAN get a piece of that pie? Also, I wouldn't care if they raised my bill 30 cents a month to keep KXAN. I'd gladly pay it.

All of this has really angered me to the point of looking elsewhere for service. It sucks because the company I work for provides cable television service but not in my area. DirectTV looks like a viable option but I'm not sure if my apartment faces the correct direction to obtain a signal. One thing is for certain, as soon as I find another provider I'm done with Time Warner.
